LACK OF READING HABITS AND VOCABULARY AMONG FRESHMEN AFFECTS ACADEMIC PERFOMANCE

The main idea to publish this article is to recognize the importance of a lack of reading habits and vocabulary; as an essential aspect to having good communication, especially when people start to learn a new language, in this case, English as a second language. Herewith there are some of the reasons that lack of reading habits and vocabulary are affecting the student's academic perfomance. Thus, vocabulary learning verifies to play an important role in oral communication. Reading proficiency is the key to knowledge. In modern life, reading depends on the individual's capacity to interpret printed or electronic pages fully and accurately. The overall objective of this research was to examine how the lack of reading habits and vocabulary is affecting academic performance. The justification for this article is based on the identification of these main problems freshmen are facing, and how there issues are affecting the academic performance of students at the university level. Is importan to recognize the importance of the parents in the acquisition of good reading habits. And of course at the school level form part of the teachers, to promote good reading habits in order for students will not have difficulties in their academic performance.

NIVEL DE INTELIGENCIA EMOCIONAL EN ESTUDIANTES DE PRIMARIA

El propósito de este artículo radica en indagar acerca del nivel de inteligencia emocional en estudiantes de primaria. Desde esta perspectiva, es importante decir que el aspecto emocional juega un papel fundamental en el rendimiento escolar, tanto dentro como fuera de clases, ya que de él dependen las reacciones necesarias para el estudio. A su vez, la expresión inteligencia emocional se refiere a la capacidad que le permite al hombre reconocer sus sentimientos y emociones y a la vez emplearlas de manera productiva, haciendo uso de destrezas, actitudes y habilidades, las mismas que determinan la conducta del adolescente y le permiten establecer buenas relaciones con su entorno. El alumno pasa en las aulas gran parte de su infancia y adolescencia, periodos en los que se produce principalmente el desarrollo emocional del niño, de forma que el entorno escolar se configura como un espacio privilegiado de socialización emocional y el docente se convierte en su modelo más importante en cuanto a actitudes, comportamientos, emociones y sentimientos. Es por eso por lo que el docente es fundamental en el desarrollo afectivo de sus alumnos. Por consiguiente, la presente investigación busca establecer la relación existente entre la inteligencia emocional y el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de primaria de ciencias de la educación. En este sentido, contará con un diseño de investigación cuantitativo descriptivo, donde se reflejará la muestra en estudio de 20 docentes de primaria para consolidar respuestas en base a un cuestionario que se acplicará como encuesta de cuatro preguntas, y con ello se desarrollarán los análisis y resultados de la problemática planteada en el estudio y se generarán las respectivas conclusiones y recomendaciones.

LA ENSEÑANZA SUPERIOR ABORDANDO LAS EXPERIENCIAS Y NECESIDADES DEL ESTUDIANTE EN ENTORNOS EN LÍNEA

En el presente artículo de reflexión se abordan las experiencias y necesidasdes que generan los entornos en línea, con base en la relación, los deseos, los estilos de aprendizaje y la diversidad de los estudiantes, enfocándose en las necesidades individuales de cada estudiante y mirando en su dirección, en esa búsqueda de información que conducirá a formar futuros líderes y a satisfeacer las necesidades de la comunidad de aprendizaje desde una institución de enseñanza superior. De esta manera, el campus universitario mantiene la misión de promover el rendimiento y la preparación de sus estudiantes para la competitividad global, fomentando la excelencia educativa y garantizando la igualdad de acceso.

FLIPPED CLASSROM FACING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS: THE CASE OF THE STUDENTS FROM THE CIENCIAS MÉDICAS Y CLÍNICAS FACULTY, UDELAS, SANTIAGO HEADQUATER

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of Flipped Classroom to help improve the English language skill of UDELAS students at the Santiago headquarter.

The researcher decided to carry out an action research under the quantitative paradigm.

Two test were applied: a test prior to the start and a test at the end of the last week of classes, after treatment (Flipped Classrom).

After the intervention, the researcher was able to notice that the use of the Flipped Classrom teaching model had a positive effect on the languafe skills of the students.

Nearly all students went on to have very good proficiency in reading comprehension in English. Most od there students significantly improved their language proficiency in their conversational strategies, their vocabulary, as well as their grammatical proficiency in English. More than half of these students managed to significantly improve their listening comprehension skills.

IS THERE HOPE FOR CREATIVE WRITING IN OUR EFL CLASSROOMS?

Creative writing must have a place in the English as a Foreign Language [EFL] classroom at Universidad Tecnológica Oteima.

Timing, disbelief, and curricula have been keeping us from allowing creativity and imagination to sculpt the process of writing of our students. Even though we must be faithful to the teaching of the mechanics and style of writing, we owe our students the opportunity to express their inward journeys when they write. As a result, when writting becomes a conduit to articulate the endless struggle to live, learning a second language is no longer an ongoing proof of linguistic competence, but some pedagogy to human development. In short, language learning, first and second, becomes an authentic translator of what is growing, cognitively and affectively, in our restless hearts. Surely, there must indeed be hope for creative writting in the EFL classroom.

USO DE GOOGLE CLASSROOM COMO ENTORNO VIRTUAL PARA MEJORAR EL APRENDIZAJE CONSTRUCTIVISTA DEL INGLÉS EN LOS ESTUDIANTES DEL CURSO INTRODUCCIÓN A LA LINGÜÍSTICA INGLESA EN LA UNIVERSIDAD DE PANAMÁ, CAMPUS OCTAVIO MÉNDEZ PEREIRA,2021

El uso de los entornos virtuales en el aprendizaje (EVA) ha sido un avance ingénito a la cobertura de las redes informáticas y la realidad de las masas. La imposibilidad de la instrucción presencial tras la inédita situación sanitaria mundial al inicio del segundo decenio del siglo XXI aceleró la avocación de la educación superior hacia los EVA y Panamá no escapó a dicha realidad.

En la Universidad de Panamá, bajo la premisa de la libertad de cátedra, los profesores emplearon un sinnúmero de herramientas digitales para cumplir con su misión de enseñar. Google Classroom, una de estas herramientas digitales, permite estructurar el contenido de las lecciones emulando un EVA. Esta investigación pretende esclarecer si el uso de Google Classroom como entorno virtual mejoraó el aprendizaje constructivista del inglés en los estudiantes de tercer año del curso Introducción a la Lingüística Inglesa en la Universidad de Panamá, Campus Octavio Méndez Pereira, 2021. Para lograr la meta, se aplica una encuesta COLLES modificada como instrumento de medición. Para relacionar los datos, se considera la prueba T de Student (con muestras independientes) para valorar pretest-post-test y una correlación de Kendall (Tau-b) de las medias y resultados perceptuales dado el bajo número de muestras. Se concluye que la percepción del conocmiento no guarda relación con Google Classroom y se demuestra que su uso entorno virtual de aprendizaje propicia el aprendizaje del inglés en los estudiantes.
